This is our first offering of Robusta. This unique Robusta lot is small holder farmers in Gambung Pangkalan, West Java. For those who've not tried Robusta, they tend to be a lot of bittering low tones, and earthy notes. Robusta's is typically prized for its massive body and high caffeine content, making it a popular ingredient for blending. But this lot is unique in the subtle sweetness pulp natural processing seems to bring, and certainly worth tasting if you're interested in Robusta. The coffee was processed by a pair of coffee collectors in the Ciwidey region, near Bandung. "Collectors" are intermediaries of sorts who buy partly processed coffee and full coffee cherry from coffee small scale farmers and then process the coffee down to the dried seed/bean. In the case of these two, they are renting a small warehouse space replete with coffee huller in Ciwidey and producing mostly wet-hulled coffee (aka "giling basah". Instead of bulking all of the coffee together, they are paying special attention to testing small batches for quality from the different regions they buy, and then separate them accordingly. They're also exploring the avenue of "Specialty" Robusta in small amount, a project this lot is from. Coffee farms in this area span an altitude range of roughly 1200 to 1700 meters above sea level.
This is another beautiful Farm Gate coffee that is great as a blend in espresso.
